what a year! advocating for tenant protection, researching our social safety net, and lobbying the government, oh my!
From 2025-2026, we worked with Coalition members and community partners to keep poverty on the agenda at all levels of government! Here are some highlights from the past year:
As part of our ongoing work to call for vacancy control to return in BC, we sent an open letter signed by 44 organizations across sectors ranging from seniors advocacy, tenants and housing rights groups, health care, climate justice, labour and education.
We had meetings with BC MLAs and Ministers about the review of rental supports in BC, the creation of targeted income support for people fleeing domestic violence, climate justice and affordable energy for low-income households, introducing a low-income transit pass, and raising the rates of social assistance.
We sent 8 calls to action letters focused on a wide variety of topics ranging from affordable transit to $10-a-day childcare to living wages for Vancouver city workers.
We made five submissions across all levels of government including a Submission to the 2026 Federal Budget calling for meaningful, collaborative investment across the social safety net to address poverty in Canada.
Our Co-Director Chantelle joined Central City Foundation’s Hope Dialogue series to talk about systemic solutions to poverty.
